Battle: Los Angeles

I agree with the reviews of this movie only in saying it almost doesn't feel like science-fiction. This is a war movie that simply happens to have the enemy be aliens. Yet this film is dang entertaining. In fact, the only think that could make it better would be if Hicks was in it. I left the theatre feeling the need to watch Aliens and wondering if this is how we got Colonial Marines.

The Third Man

Film noir at its best. Orson Welles in a role he was meant to play.

Primer

I know I said I wasn't going to be reviewing for awhile, but I saw a few awesome movies this weekend that I just had to share. The first of these films is Primer.

I don't even know what to fully say about this film yet, partly because I think it will take several viewings for my to fully absorb it, but WHOA. This is a FANTASTIC film. See it. Love it. See it again.

Hiatus

I just wanted to pop in a moment and let you all know that I need to take a brief hiatus from my movie reviews here. I love reviewing what I watch, and it's been a great two+ years doing it, but right now I'm working on a screenplay, holding a desk job, and basically working really hard.

So for the time being I have to take a break here. Until then you can also catch me at The Director's Narrative blogging about random film related things.

I will be back!

The Lookout

There are some obvious things that Memento & The Lookout share: a main character who can’t retain new memories, a sense of guilt that plagues him about a woman, and a desire to retain his old life. However, these films are actually wholly different, and entertaining in their own rights. Even though The Lookout had Memento to look back on, it’s obvious that Scott Frank didn’t intend to crib anything Christopher Nolan had already done, he intended to tell his own story, his own way.
